What is love?

To live it and know it is very easy but to say it is difficult. It is like asking a fish, “What is the sea?” The fish may say, “This is the sea. It is all around, all over.” But if you insist, “Please define the sea, don’t just indicate,” then the problem becomes really difficult for the fish.

If we search deep within man we will find that no other word used by him is more false than love. The most unfortunate thing is his thinking that those who actually have falsified love, who actually have blocked all the streams of love, are the direct ancestors of love.

Love is within every human being. It does not have to be brought in from somewhere. It is not something that has to be searched for somewhere. It is there. It is the very longing of life within everybody. It is the very fragrance of life within everybody. But it is trapped by high walls on all sides and is unable to manifest itself. All around it there are rocks, and the stream cannot spring up.

The search for love, the discipline of love is not something that you can go somewhere and learn.

Love is hidden inside human beings; it only needs to be released. The question is not how to produce it, but only how to uncover it. There is something that we have covered ourselves with that does not allow love to surface...

Everyone says he loves. Mothers, wives, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends – all say they love. But if you look at life in its collectivity, there is no love evident anywhere. If so many people are loving, the world ought to be showered with love; there ought to be flowers upon flowers of love all around, lamps of love ought to be burning everywhere. If there were a lamp of love shining in every home, how much light there would be in this world! But instead, we find a pervading atmosphere of hatred, of anger, of wars. There is not one single ray of love to be found anywhere...!!!
